The Benefits of Eating More (Hint: Successful Weight Loss!)

The Benefits of Eating More (Hint- Successful Weight Loss!)

The great "To eat or not to eat" debate. Why is this such a stake in the heart in the weight loss world? Why is it that people get so very stuck when it comes to what to eat? IF to eat? How much to eat? There have been so many different discussions over time of the best ways to lose weight that it has confused people, and the last resort tends to become "I just won't eat anything, and I'll lose weight that way.". No. MA'AM. Not gonna happen like that! You HAVE to eat. As a matter of fact, if you don't eat, there is when you will have trouble with weight loss.

One of the most used phrases I hear when someone talks to me about losing weight is "I'm giving up carbs." My first question is always, "Why?". The answer? Standard, "Because carbs make you fat.". I want to dispel this myth of carbs being the bad guy. Can they make you fat? Yes. If you eat them all day, every day, and you don't workout at all. Too many bananas will make you fat, too. Just like anything else you eat too much of.

I want to share with you the top three things you need to have a balanced healthy eating lifestyle that will contribute to weight loss. And I promise you, carbs can be and ARE your friend!

benefits of healthy carbs

Carbs are the body's main energy source. If you plan on incorporating a fitness routine into your lifestyle, carbs are your best friend here. This is what you will use as fuel to get you through your workouts without fatigue and energy depletion. You'll be able to burn more fat and lose weight easier. When eating the right carbs, benefits are:

1. Mood booster

2. Can prevent weight gain and and promote weight loss - foundation of the energy your body needs during your workouts.

3. Increased memory function.

There are two types of carbohydrates; simple and complex. This is where the confusion about eating or not eating comes in. Simple carbs are found in fruits, vegetables, but also in sweeteners like honey and sugar. They are also found in things like soda and candy. Complex carbs are found in breads, pastas, beans, rices peas, and starchy foods like potatoes and corn. A key to eating carbs is to eat carbs that offer a supply of fiber. This is great in aiding in weight loss. Fiber is found in nuts, seeds, grains, fruits, and vegetables. Incorporate them slowly, and it will prevent gas, and choose actual food over a fiber supplement.

healthy fats for weight loss

Healthy fats also give you a supply of energy, and they also keep you satiated and full. Of course, some fats are healthier than others, and there are different categories of fats. Monounsaturated (olive, peanut, safflower, and canola oils; also in peanut butter, avocado, and some nuts and seeds), polyunsaturated (corn, soybean, and flaxseed oil; also in seeds and fatty fish), saturated (found in red meat, milk products containing butter, coconut, and palm oil; also in cheese, pizza, and dairy desserts, and trans fats (found in margarine, baked goods from stores, and fast food). Mono- and poly-unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature and trans fat and saturated fat are solid at room temperature. Some benefits of healthy fats are:

1. Prevents you from eating too many carbs - remember, everything in moderation!

2. Good fats help your body to burn more fat, because it increases metabolism.

3. Healthy fats help you to feel fuller longer, which cuts bad snacking.

benefits of eating plant-based and animal protein

Protein is the building block of the body. Period. You need it in order to build muscle, repair tissue, fight infection, as well as an energy source. While there are many who live a plant-based lifestyle, there are benefits to eating either lifestyle. Sticking to proteins like lean poultry, seafood (wild caught always), eggs, beans, nuts and seeds. Plant based proteins will be lower in cholesterol and fat, and they will give you more opportunity to introduce fiber into your meals. Choose what works for YOUR body, not because someone else is doing it or because it's the "in" thing to do. Benefits of protein for your body are:

1. Boosts metabolism - it gives you energy to burn unwanted fat and have successful weight loss.

2. Builds muscle mass - it's the filler when you're strength training and breaking down your muscles.

3. Keeps you fuller longer - no more unscheduled snacking!

Proper amounts of foods from each of these categories is the major key. Because too much of any of them will be detrimental to you. A balanced eating lifestyle is always best. Depriving yourself of anything is just going to make you want it more, OR you will build up a discipline to not eating something that your body type/blood type actually needs. So be careful, do research for YOUR body type, and make eating simple and fun. A colorful plate is always a well-rounded plate.
